OUR HISTORY

IMG_0330.JPG

Temple Granite Works is a fourth generation locally owned family company.  F.S. Walker, a stonemason, emigrated in 1911 from Scotland to Vermont where he worked at a quarry.  To escape the harsh New England winters, he later moved to Texas where he bought Temple Granite Works at 310 South Main Street.  The building was located in the bustling area of downtown Temple in which the granite would come in on the local railway nearby.

He left behind a legacy of hand cut monuments, marble and stone.  You can find his work displayed throughout Central Texas cemeteries.  He also at the time patented a curbing design for cemetery plots.
